A 12-year-old boy was killed when a heavy concrete girder beam fell on him at a construction site of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway in the Geeta Colony area in east Delhi. According to a PTI report, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon after which the boy’s family members and neighbours staged a protest at the site.

The boy lived with his family, who are originally from Bangladesh, at Multani Mohalla near the construction site in Geeta Colony. It is suspected that the boy may have been playing at the site when the beam slipped and fell on him.

Initial investigation revealed that the heavy slabs were improperly stored and there weren't adequate safety measures, reported PTI.

"Preliminary inquiry revealed that the heavy slabs were kept haphazardly and the space was also not guarded by company," a police officer said, was quoted as saying by PTI.

A case has been registered against the contractors under sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 304A (causing death by negligence) has been registered against the contractors of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A hydraulic crane was used to lift the heavy object and extricate the victim. As per the report, police said the boy was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
