Delhi Water Crisis: Atishi Reiterates Blame On Haryana On Day 3 Of Hunger Strike, Citizens Struggle To Get Water From Tankers

Atishi continued her indefinite hunger strike for a third day. She claimed that the Haryana government has reduced the supply of water and that the state is not giving water to the city.

Delhi Water Crisis: As the residents in the national capital continued to struggle to secure water from water tanks, Delhi Water Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi continued her indefinite hunger strike for a third day on Sunday. She reiterated her claimed that Haryana government has reduced the supply of water and the state is not giving water to the city.

"Today is the third day of my indefinite hunger strike. I am on strike because there is a huge water crisis in Delhi. Delhi does not have its own water. All the water in Delhi comes from neighbouring states. The total water in Delhi is 1005 MGD. Out of which 613 MGD (million gallons per day) comes from Haryana but in the last 3 weeks, Haryana has reduced it. They are not giving water to Delhi... The Haryana government says that we do not have water but yesterday some people went to Hathni Kund Barrage and showed that there is water in the Hathni Kund Barrage but the gate from which water is released for Delhi has been closed and water is not being released from there," Atishi said.

Meanwhile, the residents in the national capital fulfilled their water requirements through water tankers amid a shortage in the city. People in the Chilla Gaon of Mayur Vihar area fulfilled their water requirements through water tankers.

On Sunday, scores of people were seen around a water tanker in the Geeta Colony area collecting water amid a crunch. 

BJP, LG VK Saxena Will Be Exposed, Says Saurabh Bharadwaj 

Speaking on the water crisis issue in the national capital, Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said, "After Atishi sat for protest, Haryana reduced at least 17 MGD (million gallons per day) more water... so now Haryana is giving 117 MGD less water. Haryana has stopped water for 85,000 people in the last 3 days...Atishi and I met (Delhi) LG, and he recorded the entire meeting. I'm asking him to make the video recordings public. The whole BJP and LG VK Saxena appointed by them will be exposed."

Atishi's Blood Sugar, Pressure Levels Dip

On Saturday, Atishi's blood sugar level dipped by 16 units while her blood pressure also fell. The AAP leader started the 'Pani Satyagraha' at Bhogal in south Delhi on Friday. She has claimed that Haryana has reduced Delhi's share of Yamuna water to 513 million gallons per day (MGD) amid the persistent heat, affecting over 28 lakh people in the national capital.

The Delhi government, in a statement on Saturday, said that on the second day of her hunger strike, Atishi's blood pressure was 119/79 mmHg, blood sugar 83 mg/d, weight 65.1 kg and oxygen level 98, as reported by news agency PTI.
