In a shocking development in the ongoing row over the alleged expensive renovation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence, jailed 'conman' Sukesh Chandrashekhar has now claimed that he paid for the lavish furniture in the CM's house. As per a report in Hindustan Times, Chandrashekhar has written a letter to Delhi LG Vinay Kumar Saxena alleging that both Kejriwal and the then health minister Satyendar Jain had chosen the luxurious furnishings for CM's official residence.
However, all these allegations have been completely denied by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Sukesh Chandrashekhar is presently lodged in Delhi's Mandoli jail and several cases of cheating, extortion and money laundering are going on against him. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him on 16 February 2023 in a case of cheating Rs 3.5 crore from a businessman's wife.
"This is to bring to the urgent notice that as the recent ongoing investigation in regard to the residence of Mr. Arvind Kejriwal and the expenses used from the public funds to luxurify the official residence, I would want to make full disclosures. During the said renovation and post, there were high-end furniture and bedding which were paid by me for the very same residence of Mr. Arvind Kejriwal which is currently under scrutiny," Chandrashekhar alleged in the letter, as quoted by HT.
"The furniture was personally selected by Kejriwal and Satyender Jain based on pictures which were sent by me on WhatsApp and FaceTime chats of Kejriwal's mobile and Jain's phone," the letter added.
The recent reports of CM Kejriwal spending Rs 45 crore for the renovation of his official residence have created a ruckus. According to a Hindustan Times report, in his letter to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sukesh Chandrasekhar claimed that Arvind Kejriwal and jailed AAP leader Satendra Jain themselves preferred expensive furniture for which, he had paid personally. Chandrasekhar, through his lawyer Anant Malik, also claimed that the items included in the furniture were imported from Italy.
In the letter, he alleged that in the midst of the investigation against Arvind Kejriwal for making his official residence luxurious with public money, he wants to keep his point.
The 'conman' also alleged that he has bought Visionaire's 12-seater dining table, mirrors and pillows along with dressing tables for Kejriwal's and children's bedrooms. He further said that all these things came from France and Italy and were purchased on the bills of his firm. "I am presenting the chat and other bills to the investigating agency," Chandrashekhar reportedly said in the letter.
Besides this, he claimed that all this furniture was delivered directly to Arvind Kejriwal's official residence and was installed by his staff member Rishabh Shetty. Sukesh also alleged that apart from furniture, he (Kejriwal) also wanted silver crockery which was given by a jeweller from South India.
