A massive fire broke out in an oil godown in Delhi’s Budhpur Alipur, early Monday morning. No casualties were reported as all the people inside were able to get out on time. According to PTI, the fire is suspected to have started due to a short circuit. Thick black smoke billowed from the godown due to the burning oil.

As per the report, a call about the fire was received around 6:15 AM, thereafter, 34 fire tenders were pressed into service, a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said. The blaze had spread across the oil and to a neighbouring building by the time the firefighting operations started.

"By the time the firefighting operation started, the blaze had spread across the oil godown and to a neighbouring building, which houses a godown of Whirlpool company," the official said.

Later, Director of Delhi Fire Services, Atul Garg told ANI that around 50 fire tenders were at the spot and because of the oil spill it was very slippery and it is very difficult.

“It is an oil fire, then oil has been filled, it is very slippery and it is difficult for people to stand steady. Around 50 fire tenders are on the job. The cause of the fire is still unknown"

Several videos of the fire were circulating on social media of the incident.
