AAP Protests In Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers on Saturday held a protest in Delhi against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the CBI in connection with the excise policy case in the national capital. He was arrested by the probe agency on March 26.
The CBI arrested Kejriwal after he was produced in the Rouse Avenue Court before the bench of vacation judge Amitabh Rawat. This came after the Rouse Avenue Court allowed the Central agency to question him in the Delhi liquor policy case. The AAP national convnor was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped liquor policy. He was granted bail by a trial court that was stayed by Delhi High Court.
AAP leader Dilip Pandey hit out at the ruling BJP-led government saying, “BJP has excelled in misusing the Constitutional agencies. Their whole motive is to not let Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal come outside of jail. When they saw that the trial court court had granted him bail, they asked the CBI to arrest him. We want to expose them.”
Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi and Gopal Rai, along with party workers and leaders, protested in the national capital against Kejriwal's arrest.
The protesters assembled at the AAP office close to the BJP headquarters on DDU Marg and raised slogans against the saffron party while demanding Kejriwal’s release, as reported by news agency PTI. They also carried placards against the “misuse” of central agency and for ending “dictatorship”.
According to a senior police officer, arrangements were made to stop the protesters from marching towards the BJP headquarters since no permission was taken for the protest, PTI reported.
Barricades have been put up and paramilitary personnel deployed at the site to stop the protesters, the officer said. If required, the protesters might be detained as Section 144 of the CrPC has already been imposed at DDU Marg, he further stated.
