A real estate agent from Uttar Pradesh who duped a woman of Rs 42 lakh in a scam property deal has been booked by police. A report by PTI says that Dr Rashmi Kumari from Bihar's Sheikhpur had paid the money for a house and a land parcel in Lucknow but the deal turned out to be a scam.
"On December 30, a case was filed against Vashisht Kumar Dubey, a resident of Modh in Bhadohi, and a developer with the RBD Construction Developer Private Limited in Lucknow," Superintendent of Police (Bhadohi) Meenakshi Katyayan said. Dubey has been booked under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
In her complaint, she said that Dubey had promised to build a house and provide her with a land parcel in Lucknow. She paid Rs 42 lakh to the accused as an advance on September 3, 2022, but he failed to deliver.
When she demanded her land parcel and house, Dubey allegedly threatened her, claiming connections to a notorious criminal gang. He also threatened to kill her if she pursued the matter, she alleged in her complaint.
The report says that an investigation is underway to bring the accused to justice.
This comes days after a doctor was defrauded of Rs 70 lakh by three people including a woman, in a flat that was not on sale in Navi Mumbai. The accused showed a flat located in the Roadpali area of Kalamboli to the doctor and expressed their intention to sell it to him despite the fact that it had been already sold to someone else.
They took Rs 70 lakh from the doctor but did not give him possession of the flat. When the doctor demanded his money back, the accused evaded him.
The doctor approached the police with a complaint, based on which a case was registered against the three accused under legal provisions for cheating and criminal breach of trust.
