Umesh Pal Murder Case: Tight preparations have been made in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh as a Special Task Force (STF) team of Prayagraj police on Sunday reached Sabarmati Central jail in Ahmedabad to bring back jailed gangster Atiq Ahmed. He is one of the accused in Umesh Pal’s kidnapping case and the verdict on the same will be delivered on March 28.

According to ANI, DG (prisons) Anand Kumar said, "Mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed will be kept in isolation in a high-security barrack at the jail. His cell will have a CCTV camera. Jail staff will be chosen & deployed on the basis of their records, they will have body-worn cameras. Prayagraj Jail office and Jail HQ will monitor round the clock through a video wall. DIG Jail HQ is being sent to ensure all the arrangements at Prayagraj Jail."

The police have got done with his medical on Sunday morning and preparations are underway to bring him back to Uttar Pradesh. Reportedly, Atiq needs to be present in the court when the verdict is delivered.

Umesh Pal, a key witness in the famous Raju Pal murder case, was shot dead by several shooters in broad daylight in the Sulem Sarai area of Prayagraj on February 24. The entire family of Atiq Ahmed, including his two sons and wife, have been named as accused in the case.

Following the incident, the Prayagraj police killed two shooters in encounters. So far, no arrest has been made in the case while police are trying to locate all the accused. UP Police earlier last week sent around 9 cops out of Prayagraj as they were in touch with the Atiq Ahmed gang in some way or another.

The police have also informed the officials of seven states where Atiq’s wife Shahista and his son Asad could likely be. These include Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Atiq Ahmed’s wife and son, and other accused in the case are on the run since the police launched a massive manhunt to catch them.

The court had reserved its verdict in the last hearing and will pronounce the same on Tuesday, March 28. Sources tell ABP News that police can leave with Atiq for UP anytime soon. Notably, earlier, UP police had sought permission to bring Atiq back from Gujarat to probe the case thoroughly.

The request was challenged in the Supreme Court on behalf of Atiq Ahmed's family. They said there’s a threat to Atiq’s life in UP.
