A 78-year-old Tamil Nadu woman, who went missing for 10 days, was murdered by a couple in Chennai, police said on Monday.
The couple further chopped up the elderly woman’s body and threw the pieces into the Adyar River, Indian Today quoted the Tamil Nadu police as saying. The couple was arrested in Virudhunagar over the murder of Vijaya, who was living in MGR Nagar in Mylapore and working as a day wager.
On July 17, Vijaya did not return from work, which worried her daughter, Loganayagi. After unsuccessful searches, she filed a missing persons report with the MGR Nagar Police two days later on July 19.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the police became suspicious of their neighbour, Parthiban. He was called for questioning on July 23 but he did not present himself.
The police tracked Parthiban through his mobile phone, he and his wife were hiding in the Virudhunagar district. The two were take by the police and they confessed to killing Vijaya after she had caught them stealing. They admitted to strangling her, dismembering her body and dumping the parts in the Adyar River. According to India Today, the police suspected that the motive was to steal her jewellery, they brought the couple to Chennai for further investigation.
Ennore Stabbing Of 65-Year-Old
In May, two men were arrested for stabbing a 65-year-old woman to death at Ennore in Chennai, according to The New Indian Express. The three suspects were identified as Ajay (24) of Minjur, and Vikram (24) of Chengalpattu. Jeevaraja, the key suspect, they were looking for the woman’s grand-son-in-law, Mahesh, but when they couldn’t find him they attacked the woman and fled the scene.
As per The New Indian Express, the deceased was identified as A Bakkiyam, a small-time money lender in the locality.
After they couldn’t find Mahesh, in a fit of rage, the three attacked A Bakkiyam with knives. Her neighbours rushed her to a nearby private hospital, she was then referred to Government Stanley Hospital where she was declared dead.
