Six people, including two juveniles, were nabbed in connection with the killing of Kisan Morcha leader of the Delhi BJP Surendra Matiala in Dwarka's Bindapur area, Delhi police said on Saturday. Matiala was shot dead in the Bindapur area on April 14. He was in his office at the time of the incident. The arrested persons include the shooter identified as Yogesh.


Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan said that Yogesh (30), a resident of Jhajjar district in Haryana, was among the two shooters who killed Matiala, news agency PTI reported.


Police said that a weapon has been recovered from Yogesh's possession and the five others were booked under criminal conspiracy charges.


According to the police, he was associated with fugitive gangster Kapil Sangwan.


"The motive will be clear when we will nab the main conspirator," DCP Dwarka told news agency ANI.






Earlier, the Delhi Police said that Matiala was in his office when two unidentified men entered the premises, carrying arms, shot him, and fled the spot. As per the police, the crime took place around 7.30 pm and was captured on close-circuit television cameras.


The BJP leader had four bullet injuries, including on his chest and stomach. He was taken to a hospital where authorities declared him brought dead.


After the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan said that the motive for the killing was not clear, and officials were investigating the case from all angles, ANI reported. 


The police filed a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code and under provisions of the Arms Act.
