A man died after he was allegedly punched in the face by his wife, following a heated argument on Friday in Pune’s Wanwadi area. According to PTI,  the altercation ensued because the woman was upset with her husband, Nikhil, for not arranging a trip to Dubai to celebrate her birthday. Renuka’s birthday was in September, and she expressed a desire to celebrate it in Dubai, which her husband did not fulfil, reported news agency PTI.

The deceased, Nikhil Khanna, was a real estate developer, according to the police. "During the investigation, it came to light that the man's 36-year-old wife, Renuka, had her birthday on September 18. She wanted to celebrate it in Dubai, but her husband did not fulfil her demand," an officer from Wanwadi police station said, as per PTI.

Additionally, Renuka had expected an expensive gift for their anniversary which was on November 5. Moreover, Nikhil did not respond to her desire to visit Delhi for her relative’s birthday.

"Besides, the couple also had their wedding anniversary on November 5 and she was expecting a good gift from her husband. The woman was also upset as she wanted to go to Delhi for her relative's birthday, but there was no favourable response from her husband," the police officer said.

This led to a heated argument between the couple at their apartment in an upscale locality. In a fit of rage, Renuka struck Nikhil on his nose, causing profuse bleeding and rendering him unconscious. Prompted by the neighbours' alert, the police team arrived and rushed the victim to Sassoon General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to PTI.

As per an ANI report, the police mentioned that “during the altercation, Renuka punched Nikhil in the face with such force that it resulted in a broken nose and some teeth. The severe bleeding caused Nikhil to lose consciousness.” The police stated that the autopsy will determine whether the accused used her hand or an object to strike Nikhil.

"We have detained the woman, and our investigation into the case is ongoing," the official confirmed. A case has been registered against her under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 302 (murder).
