In a case having eerie similarities with the murder of 26-year-old Shraddha Walkar by her partner Aftab in Delhi, a man was allegedly was killed by his wife and stepson, who then chopped his body into 10 pieces and kept them in a fridge before dumping them across east Delhi.


Anjan Das (45) was killed on May 30 this year by his wife Poonam (48) and stepson Deepak (25). Both the accused were arrested from Pandav Nagar area on Monday. So far, police have found six body parts.

  •  Police said the trigger for the murder was the fact that Anjan Das tried to molest Poonam's divorced stepdaughter and Deepak's wife as well. Moreover, Das was also allegedly sending Poonam's earnings to his another wife and eight children in Bihar, PTI reported.

  • In April, Poonam hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Das with the help of her son Deepak. On May 30, the duo served alcohol laced with sleeping pills to him.

  • The mother and son then stabbed Das with a knife over neck, chest and abdomen, police said. After the blood got drained from the body, they chopped the body into 10 pieces and kept them in the fridge. They then dumped his body parts over the next three to four days across east Delhi.

  • On June 5, police found a bag at the Ramlila Ground in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri carrying the lower part of a human body. A few metres away, another part was also recovered in a white plastic bag, PTI reported.

  • Over the next few days, his legs, thighs and skull were also recovered. A case was then registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence and giving false information) at Pandav Nagar police station.

  • During investigation, CCTV footage showed a woman and a man disposing a plastic bag at a deserted place in Ramlila Ground. On June 1 also, the same woman and man were seen near the spot.

  • After police questioned Poonam and Deepak, they gave conflicting versions. Later, the duo disclosed about their conspiracy to kill Das.

  • Poonam, who hails from Jharkhand, got married at the age of 13 to one Sukhdev Tiwari, a resident of Aara in Bihar. She gave birth to a girl at the age of 14. Tiwari then went to Delhi for work, but never came back.

  • Poonam then came to Delhi and started living with a person called Kallu, a resident of Trilokpuri. She had a son Deepak, and two daughters from Kallu.

  • In 2011, Poonam met Das, who worked as a lift mechanic. She started living with him after Kallu died of liver failure. Later, she came to know that Das was already married and had eight children (seven daughters and one son) from his first wife.
