Uttar Pradesh Crime News: The Barabanki district administration in Uttar Pradesh charged a man under the National Security Act (NSA) as he is accused of murdering two women and sexually assaulting their bodies. The accused, 26-year-old Amrendra Rawat, was apprehended last year for the murders in the Ramsanehi Ghat area. The NSA was invoked on Saturday, according to Additional Superintendent of Police (South), Akhilesh Narayan Singh.
Singh explained that Rawat, who was already booked under the Gangsters Act in May last year, confessed to murdering the women and performing sexual acts with their bodies, news agency PTI reported. "The NSA was invoked considering the heinous nature of the crime, which would make it difficult for the accused to get bail," Singh added.
The first body, belonging to a 60-year-old woman, was discovered in a forested area near the Ramsanehi Ghat police station on December 29, 2022. The body was in a strangled and dishevelled condition. Police investigations revealed that she had been raped after being murdered. A similar incident had been reported earlier in December 2022, leading to Rawat's arrest in January last year.
He was caught as he attempted to kill another elderly woman in the neighbouring Ayodhya district, police stated, according to PTI.

UP: Dalit Nurse Locked In Room, Raped By Doctor In Moradabad
In a separate incident, a Dalit nurse was allegedly raped by a doctor inside a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad, the police informed on Monday. The victim's father lodged a complaint stating that his daughter, aged 20, was raped around midnight on Sunday after being held hostage. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, including Dr. Shahnawaz, who allegedly committed the crime, along with a nurse named Mehnaz and a ward boy named Junaid, PTI reported.
According to Superintendent of Police (Rural), Sandeep Kumar Meena, the victim had been working at the hospital for seven months and was on duty on Saturday evening. Mehnaz reportedly forced the victim to meet Dr. Shahnawaz, and when she refused, Mehnaz and Junaid forcibly locked her in a room where the doctor later raped her. The accused also threatened to kill the victim and used casteist slurs against her, according to PTI.
Following the incident, the hospital was sealed by order of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kuldeep Singh, and further investigations are ongoing.
