In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her two classmates inside the classroom of their civic-run school in Matunga area of Mumbai, reported PTI. The victim and the accused are all students of class 8 and minors.

An official said that the police have registered a case against the boys for the incident that took place on Monday.

According to PTI, the boys were produced in a juvenile court, which sent them to the juvenile detention centre at Dongri in south Mumbai.

"The girl was sexually assaulted by her two classmates when their fellow classmates stepped out of the classroom for dance practice. The two accused indulged in the crime by taking advantage of the situation," an official of Matunga police station said.

The official further said, "The incident left the girl shaken and she shared her ordeal with her family members, who immediately lodged a complaint against the accused."

The police have registered a case against the boys under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376 DA (gangrape of a woman under sixteen years of age) and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official informed.

Recently, a special Mumbai court sentenced a 41-year-old man to 20 years' imprisonment for repeatedly raping his 16-year-old step-daughter since 2019 and impregnating her. The court relied on a DNA test report to pronounce the verdict.

Special Judge Anis Khan, designated to hear cases related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, in the order passed on Tuesday said in such peculiar circumstances, DNA tests are an effective tool for investigation as well as to establish the proof of guilt of the accused.

“The DNA report clearly indicates the accused was the biological father of the foetus of the victim girl,” the court said in the order, a copy of which was made available on Wednesday.
