A tragic episode unfolded in Madhya Pradesh when an elderly couple was found dead at their home in the Ujjain district, according to a police officer on Saturday. As per news agency ANI, the incident happened in the jurisdiction of Narwar police station in Piploda Dwarkadhish village. The police rushed to the spot as soon as they received the information. The police filed a report and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the incident.


“An elderly couple was sleeping alone in their house in Piploda Dwarkadhish village under Narwar police station and their bodies were found in a room on Saturday morning,” ANI quoted Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachin Sharma as saying.


A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has arrived at the scene and the police have secured it, he stated.


The officer further said the evidence was being collected on the spot. Additionally, a SIT has been established to look into the matter and find the accused. The initial inquiry revealed that the couple’s deaths were caused by strangling and stabbing, as per Officer Sharma, reported ANI.


The officer revealed more information saying, “As almirahs and drawers were also misplaced, the police filed a case against the unknown under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grave damage). The incident is currently being looked into further,” as per ANI.


According to Superintendent of Police Sachin Sharma, a few thieves barged into the elderly couple's house with the intention of looting on Friday night. However, the couple woke up to the noise, following which the accused stabbed them with sharp objects. No evidence of firing was found at the spot, as per a report by the Free Press Journal.


The deceased were identified as Ramniwas Kumawat and his wife Munni Kumawat.
