Six members of a family, including a father-son duo and three women, were shot dead while three others were injured on Friday in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district in a case that is said to be about past enmity. Police have identified eight persons who were accused of being involved in the murders and a case is being registered against them. According to the officials, the relatives of the victims, in this case, are accused of murdering the kin of the shooters.

The crimes were committed around 10 am at Lepa village, 50 to 60 km from the district headquarters, under the Dimani Assembly area, news agency PTI reported an official as saying.

Three of the victims died on the spot and three succumbed to their bullet wounds while being rushed to the district hospital, Inspector General of Police (Chambal Zone) S Saxena told PTI.

Visuals of the incident surfaced on social media that showed gunshots being fired indiscriminately. The video was captured by onlookers.

The injured persons were admitted to a hospital.

Asked about the motive behind the killings, the official said that the deceased and the accused had an old enmity. “The victims’ relatives have been accused of murdering the family members of today's alleged killers,” the official said, as per PTI.
