Police investigating the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa have concluded that her 13-year-old brother allegedly sexually assaulted and killed her after watching a pornographic video on a mobile phone while sleeping beside her.

According to a report by PTI,  Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh said, "A nine-year-old girl was raped and strangulated to death under Jawa police station limits on April 24, following which the police had registered a case and started a probe.”

The victim’s body was recovered from the courtyard of the house where she was sleeping at the time of the incident.

Police found no evidence of anyone entering the house, and the family also denied hearing any sounds during the night, the SP said, as reported by PTI.

Singh said that, after intense interrogation of the family members, it came to light that the victim's 13-year-old brother had slept beside his sister at night and raped her after watching porn. When the victim threatened to inform their father, he strangled her.

He later woke up his mother and confided in her. They came to the spot where the girl was lying and, when they discovered she was still alive, the boy strangled her again. His two elder sisters also woke up, and then moved their bed to a different spot, before informing the police, in an alleged attempt to mislead the investigation.

Singh said the family members had earlier claimed that the girl died after being bitten by a venomous insect, but their account came into question when a medical exam revealed rape.

"After collecting technical evidence and interrogating 50 people, police found repeated changes in the statements of the family members. On the basis of suspicion, they were intensely interrogated, following which they admitted the crime," the SP said, according to PTI.

The boy along with his two sisters and mother have been detained.
