Officials said two guys were arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a businessman and his wife on Thursday, news agency PTI reported. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan, the accused stated that they committed the crime after being inspired by the 'Asur' web series, which was launched in 2020. Dhan Kumar Jain (70), a resident of the Brahmapuri region, was slain and his wife Anju Jain (65) was critically injured on Thursday after they struggled against a robbery by two men who broke into their house, according to Sajwan.

According to him, the suspects left with cash and valuables. Anju died yesterday amid therapy.

Sajwan stated that eight teams were created to investigate the matter, which looked at CCTV video, performed electronic surveillance, and obtained information from informants, after which the two accused were taken into custody.

According to the police, the arrested individuals are Priyank Sharma (25) alias Parush, a final year LLB student, and his buddy Yash Sharma alias Yashu (24), who has studied until Class 8 and works in a battery shop.

Priyank informed police during interrogation that he looked up ways to escape the police on YouTube after being inspired by the 'Asur' web series, according to Sajwan.

The accused went on to say that they used gloves, masks, and helmets to conceal their identities and that they altered the number plate of the bike after performing the crime. The pair picked an escape route where CCTV cameras would not be able to identify them.

They claimed that the accused had gone to the businessman's residence the day before the incident under the guise of seeking for a place to rent.

Sajwan stated that the accused had a revolver, motorbike, clothing, helmets and shoes worn during the conduct of the crime, as well as gold and silver jewellery and cash stolen from the businessman's home.

After the incident became public, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav attempted to corner the state administration.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), SP Chief had stated: "The murder of a businessman in Meerut by entering his house, looting and murderous attack on his wife is a heart-wrenching and extremely terrifying incident."

"Recession during the BJP government, corruption of officials, collection of donations by the ruling party and, above all, the fear of criminals have completely killed business in Uttar Pradesh," he added.
