A BSF trooper in Gujarat was murdered on Saturday for purportedly protesting the circulation of an obscene video of his minor daughter. Seven people were arrested for allegedly murdering him and sent to judicial custody on Monday.

The BSF jawan on Saturday along with his wife, son, and nephew went to Vanipur village in the Chaklasi taluka of Kheda to confront one, Sailesh alias Sunil Jadav, for allegedly circulating the obscene video. They wanted Jadav to delete the video clip.

However, on raising the issue with Jadav’s parents, the accused’s father and six other members of the family attacked them with sticks and sickles.

While the jawan was killed in the melee, his son suffered serious injuries. She then called her nephew and second son, who called an ambulance and rushed the injured to Nadiad Government Hospital. However, the BSF trooper was declared dead on arrival. His son was referred to the Ahmedabad Government Hospital.

The accused — Dinesh Jadav, Arvind Jadav, Chhababhai Jadav, Sachin Jadav, Bhavesh Jadav and Kailashben Jadav, and Sunil Jadav — were booked for murder, attempt to murder, unlawful assembly, unlawful assembly with common intent to commit offence, rioting, and armed with deadly weapon.

Investigation officer JS Champavat and his team arrested all seven on Sunday evening. They were produced before a Kheda court on Monday and remanded to judicial custody.
