East Delhi: A 73-year-old man, who retired from MTNL as a mechanic, was allegedly stabbed to death on Saturday morning by two assailants at his residence in New Ashok Nagar area in east Delhi. 


"A PCR call was received at New Ashok Nagar at 6:30 am. The caller said that someone has committed the murder of his father, and he saw two people entering the house," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta.


On receiving this information, the police rushed to the spot at house number C-2/33 in New Ashok Nagar. "At the house, a person who was identified as Gautam Thakur was found dead on the bed in his room on the first floor. He had stab injuries in his abdomen," Gupta said.


It was later known that the PCR call was made by Thakur's elder son Mukesh Thakur.


Police told news agency PTI that the crime team was called on the spot of the incident, following which the spot was inspected and photographs were taken.


Thakur had retired from MTNL in 2012 and was living with his wife, two sons and their families, on the first floor of the house, police said.


The dead body has been shifted to mortuary in LBS Hospital and an FIR of murder has been registered, they said.


DCP Gupta stated that the the investigation revealed that all the family members were present in the house when the incident took place in the morning today.






She said the claim of Thakur's son, about seeing two men goingout of the house soon after the incident, is also being verified.


The officer also said that the CCTV cameras in the area have been scanned to identify the accused.


She also said that since the incident occurred in early morning, there were no eye witnesses. 


Further probe into the matter is underway, Gupta said.
