New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Monday said that they have solved a six-month-old murder case of a girl named Shraddha as they arrested a man identified as Aftab Poonawalla in connection with the same. In the harrowing details shared by the police, it was revealed that the man chopped off his live-in partner’s body into 35 pieces and disposed them off at various places across the city at midnight.
According to the police, Aftab brought a fridge where he kept the mutilated body of his live-in partner for 18 days after which he would try to get rid of it.
Aftab and Shraddha worked at a call centre in Mumbai where they first met and later started dating. After her family did not approve of their relationship, the couple eloped to Delhi and began a live-in relationship.
Meanwhile, Shraddha’s parents would check their daughter’s well-being through her social media posts. Upon not getting any update on her social media account for quite some time, Shraddha’s father came to Delhi.
The father lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police after her daughter remained untraceable in the city.
Shraddha's father alleged that his daughter used to work in a call center in Mumbai where she met a man named Aftab and their friendship turned into a close relationship. Both of them started liking each other but the family did not approve of it. Due to this, his daughter and Aftab left Mumbai and came to Delhi and started living in the Chhatarpur area here, he told the police.
Upon the father's complaint, the Delhi Police started the investigation and through technical surveillance, traced Aftab who was later nabbed.
When questioned, Aftab divulged that the girl was pressuring him into marriage which would often lead to quarrels between them after which in the month of May, he brutally killed his partner and chopped off her body, and disposed of the pieces across various places in the city.
As per news agency ANI, the accused has been sent to five-day police custody.
