New Delhi: A decomposed body of a 53-year old woman was found in a plastic bag in Mumbai’s Lalbaug area, said the police on Wednesday, reported ANI. A 22-year-old daughter of the woman has been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the matter, they added.

"The decomposed body of a 53-year-old woman was found in a plastic bag in the Lalbaug area. The 22-year-old daughter of the deceased woman was taken into custody for questioning," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Mundhe.

The police also took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem. An investigation is underway in the matter and further details are awaited.

The woman has been identified as Veena Prakash, said the Mumbai Police, adding that her body parts like arms and legs were chopped off. A case has been registered at Kalachowki police station, it added.

The incident comes a day after the decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found inside a plastic drum at SMVT Railway Station in Bengaluru on Monday. The police recovered the CCTV footage and were on lookout to find three people who were carrying the drum.

The crime came to light after the personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) experienced foul smell on Monday morning. In the evening, the officers found an unattended drum.

After finding the source of the smell, they sealed the drum and called upon Baiyappanahalli railway police.

The senior police officials reached the spot and examined the drum. When they later cut open the drum, the officials found a decomposed body, said a report on Deccan Herald.

This is the third time the officials have recovered a decomposed body from a railway station. Earlier, two bodies were found at Yeshwantpur railway station on January 4 and Baiyappanahalli railway station on December 6, 2022.
