A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) head constable's hand was reportedly severed by her husband during a dispute at a hotel in Adarsh Nagar, northwest Delhi. The incident transpired on Friday, leading to the registration of an attempt to murder case, news agency PTI reported citing a police official on Saturday (August 26).
The couple, natives of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, arrived at the hotel around 3 PM on Friday. The woman had come to Delhi to undertake a departmental examination. Police suspect that the husband might have administered something to his 28-year-old wife, causing her to lose consciousness. Subsequently, he allegedly severed her hand from the wrist on Friday evening. The woman regained consciousness and promptly alerted the hotel staff, who then informed the police.
"We are in the process of verifying the victim's account. Presently, she is in a semi-conscious state and receiving treatment at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital. Her condition impedes her ability to provide further details," stated a senior police official.
While the husband remains at large, the police are endeavoring to locate him. An attempt to murder case under IPC section 307 has been registered in response to the incident.
Earlier in the day, a 23-year-old man allegedly attacked a school student and another person with a knife in Delhi’s Narela area, PTI reported citing police. Accused Vinay, who is suspected to be mentally unstable, was also thrashed by the locals, the report said.
As per the preliminary inquiry, Vinay attacked Chaman (11), a student of SKV School, all of a sudden and without any provocation, a senior police officer told PTI.
When Rajesh saw the child being attacked, he intervened and tried to save him, but he was also assaulted by the accused and suffered multiple injuries to his head, face, and hand, according to the report.
Chaman suffered a back injury near his left shoulder. The two were taken to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandar Hospital, where Rajesh is still being treated and the student is no longer in danger, according to police.
Meanwhile, locals and bystanders seized Vinay and thrashed him. He also attempted to harm himself with the knife, according to the senior officer, who added that there was no specific reason for the argument.
According to the report, legal action is being taken based on medico-legal cases and victim statements.
