New Delhi: Three people, including a woman were injured in a firing incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Thursday, reported ABP News. According to the report, the incident where a man fired shots in the middle of the road took place at Gurjar Chowk under police station Ganga Nagar in Meerut.
The suspect has been identified as Shivam who absconded after the incident and the cause of shooting is also not known yet, the report stated. The police is looking for the suspect.
Injured woman’s son, speaking with ABP News, said that his mother and father were sitting in their shop when an unidentified person came near the shop. A second person came from behind with a gun and opened fire which hit my mother in the thighs. My father who rushed to save my mother also got shot in the shoulder,” he said.
The police are investigating the matter and checking CCTV footage of the area as well. Probe to arrest the accused is underway.
In another mishap in the district, a person died while another went missing after a boat capsized in the Ganga on Tuesday, a senior official said, reported news agency PTI. According to the report, fifteen people were on the boat when it capsized, District Magistrate Deepak Meena said.
Fourteen people, including a woman, were rescued. One of those rescued, identified as Monu, died while being taken to hospital, Meena said.
He added that one person was still missing and efforts were on to trace him.
The boat collided with a bridge pillar at Hastinapur after losing control in the fast current and overturned, Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said.
The boat was on its way to Bijnor, he said.
National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force personnel undertook the rescue work, he said.
