The Kerala health department has released two helpline numbers in the wake of Wayanad landslides that has killed 43 people so far. To tackle the situation, the National Health Mission has opened a district level control room and released two helpline numbers: 8086010833 and 9656938689, for emergency health services.
To aid the relief efforts, Kerala government's Department of Information and Public Relations (PRD) has opened district and state-level media control rooms. The helpline number to reach the control room is, 0483-2734387.
To contact the state-level control room, located at the Secretariat, dial 0471-2327628 or 2518637, said the Department of Information and Public Relations.
Heavy rains triggered the landslides which took place in the early hours of Tuesday in the Wayanad district of Kerala, with Mundakkai village affected the most.
The Kerala government has sought the help assistance of the Defence forces for the rescue operations in the area. A Defence Public Relations Officer said that a team of 43 personnel, led by the Second-in-Command from the 122 Infantry Battalion (TA) MADRAS, has been mobilised to aid in the ongoing rescue efforts.
The team has a Medical Officer, two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and 40 soldiers and is equipped to provide critical assistance in the affected area.
In a separate statement, the Defence said based on a requisition received from the Kerala government on Tuesday morning "for rescue of approximately 250 persons likely to be stranded in a major landslide in Meppadi Panchayat" in Vythiri Taluk two rescue columns of Indian Army with a strength of approximately 200 soldiers from Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre, Kannur, along with medical team from Military Hospital Kannur and troops from Territorial Army from Kozhikode has been deployed.
