In a deeply disturbing incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, a vegetable vendor lost his life after being accidentally buried under a pile of sludge dumped by a sewer-cleaning team near a cemetery. The tragic event took place in the Baradari area on Thursday, officials confirmed.
Man buried alive under a pile of sludge
According to a report by PTI, Sunil Kumar Prajapati, 45, who lived in the Shantipur locality, was resting under a tree close to his home when the mishap occurred. Prajapati, reportedly in an inebriated state at the time, was unaware that a tractor-trolley carrying sewer waste was about to unload nearby.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya said that the driver of the vehicle, operated by a civic team led by a man named Naem, apparently failed to notice Prajapati lying under the tree before emptying the waste directly onto him.
“His son later found him buried under the sludge and, with the help of locals, managed to pull him out,” the officer stated. Prajapati was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, a case has been registered at Baradari police station against the accused municipal workers.
Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Maurya told PTI that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter and appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is complete.
