Vadodara News: A 30-year-old man was killed, and another sustained injuries after being attacked by a mob in Vadodara, Gujarat, on suspicion of theft, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred near a police station in the Varasiya locality around midnight, resulting in injuries to three police personnel who attempted to intervene, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Panna Momaya.


DCP Momaya informed that locals caught two of the three men, who were allegedly involved in multiple theft cases, as they attempted to flee the area. "Three persons rode on a stolen motorcycle. They parked the two-wheeler and walked together when some people asked them what they were doing there so late at night. They tried to flee, and two of them were nabbed and thrashed by a mob," she stated, as per news agency PTI. The trio had reportedly arrived in the area on a stolen two-wheeler and were suspected of intending to commit theft.


The two suspected thieves were taken to a government hospital, where Shahbaj Pathan (30) was declared dead, while Akram Tiliyawala (20) is undergoing treatment. "Pathan had ten theft cases registered against him, while Tiliyawala has seven. Both were previously detained under the Gujarat Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act," Momaya said. The third individual, Shahid Sheikh, who initially managed to escape during the attack, has three cases registered against him and was also booked under PASA.

Vadodara Police Recover Stolen Two-Wheeler, Bag Of Weapons Used For Breaking Locks


Police recovered tools from the men, as well as the stolen two-wheeler they had used. Additionally, a bag of weapons allegedly used for breaking locks to commit housebreaks was recovered, as reported by Indian Express.


An FIR has been lodged by the Vadodara City Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder against unidentified persons. According to IE report, DCP Momaya emphasised, "We are checking CCTV footage to identify the accused and also the weapons that were used to assault the men. The people should not have taken law into their hands. Three policemen... have also been injured and are undergoing treatment."


Pathan's body has been sent for autopsy, while Tiliyawala continues to receive treatment at SSG Hospital. Meanwhile, Shahid Sheikh has been detained for questioning concerning the theft of the motorcycle, for which a separate FIR is being lodged by the vehicle's owner, Momaya added.
