A video of roti being made by spitting on it in a wedding ceremony in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut went viral on social media, following which the police detain a person, an official said on Monday, news agency PTI reported.
According to the information, some local residents claim that the incident took place on the night of February 21.
Ayush Vikram Singh, Superintendent of Police (city), said that a video went viral in which a person is seen spitting while making the roti.
As per the details, the person was seen spitting on the roti while baking it inside a tandoor during a wedding ceremony. The incident happened under the Brahmapuri police station area.
The SP said the police took cognizance of the matter and a person has been detained. He added that action will be taken in this regard.
Last month, a man working at an eatery in Ghaziabad was arrested after a video of him spitting on a customer's roti surfaced online. The video showed the 20-year-old accused, Irfan, spitting on a roti before placing it in the tandoor and it was shared on social media.
Irfan worked at an eatery located near Lodhi Chowk police outpost in Ghaziabad. He is a native of Nai Basti, Dhampur in Bijnor district, police said. Soon after the video surfaced on social media, Khoda police visited the eatery and apprehended the accused.
The arrest was confirmed by Indirapuram Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Swatantra Kumar Singh. He said that the Food Safety and Drugs Department had conducted a sampling at the eatery where the incident took place.
In December last year, a vegetable vendor was arrested in Bulandshahr after a video showed him spitting on vegetables while selling them in the Anupshahr police station area.
The act was captured on a mobile phone's camera and shared on social media. After the video went viral, the police searched for the vendor and arrested him. The man was identified as Shabeem from Nai Basti area.
