Five people were bitten by snakes in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur in a span of three days, following which the local authorities called a team of snake charmers to catch the reptile terrorising the locals. Of the five people bitten by snakes in the Sadarpur village of Garhmukteshwar Tehsil, three died while two are still under treatment.
The incidents reportedly started on Monday (October 20), when a snake bit a woman and her two children sleeping on the floor of their home. The three victims were taken to a hospital but succumbed to venom poisoning during treatment. The second tragedy struck the next day when the victims' neighbour was bitten by a snake on Monday night (October 21).
The person was immediately rushed to the hospital and is still under treatment. The frequent snake bites caused panic among the villagers, who alerted the local authorities and the Forest Department about the incidents.
By Tuesday (October 22), a team of Forest Department officials successfully rescued a snake from the vicinity of the victims' house, providing some relief to the villagers. However, the calm was shortlived as the next day on Wednesday night (October 23), another man was bitten by a snake. The man is receiving treatment at a hospital in Meerut and remains critical.
With renewed fear gripping the village, the Forest Department officials called in a team of four snake charmers from Meerut to catch the remaining reptiles. These snake charmers are searching every wall and corner of the village to find the hiding reptiles, according to Forest Department Ranger Karan Singh.
"Yesterday, another snake was rescued. Today, another snake was spotted, hiding inside a wall. A team of snake charmers has been called from Meerut to catch the snake. Four teams from the forest department and the police are present at the site, and a four-member team of snake charmers is also here," Singh told NDTV.
