A woman was allegedly assaulted and her head was half-shaved by a group of women in the Lalsinghmura area of Bishalgarh in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Thursday. It is being said that the mob of women assaulted her after she couldn't repay her loan.
The victim was rescued by the police from Bishalgarh Women Police Station after receiving information about the incident. She was then brought to the station for safety and initial inquiry, NDTV reported.
Bishalgarh Women Police Station in-charge Inspector Shiuli Das, who is investigating the matter said the woman was reportedly attacked by members of a local Self-Help Group (SHG). The victim told the police that she was assaulted by the women possibly over a financial dispute, which involved money she borrowed from the SHG, the report added.
"We heard some women from a self-help group assaulted a woman. We took her (the victim) to the police station to inquire about te accused persons and later dropper her off at her residence," Das said.
"We are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the facts," the police officer said.

Recounting the harrowing incident, the victim claimed that she was in her kitchen when around 15-20 local women barged into her home. Following a brief conversation about her travel plans, the group allegedly dragged her outside her house, rebuked and assaulted her, before shaving half of her head.
"My husband was not present at home at that time. My sister-in-law was in the kitchen. Some men kept watching but none tried to help me," a report by the Indian Express quoted the victim as saying.
On being asked about the possible reason for the assault, the woman said that the attackers demanded that she return the borrowed money to the SHG within a single day.
A suo motu case has been registered against 20-21 unnamed individuals under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 74 for outraging the modesty of a woman, and Section 3(5) for common intention.
