A Class 5 student was allegedly kidnapped and raped while she was returning from school in South Tripura district. After the girl didn't reach her home on her regular time, her family members feared she may have been kidnapped, and they tried to find her by asking people at the school.
The girl's father said they could not find her so they sought help from the police and filed a complaint. The girl was found near her house on Saturday evening.

"Accordingly, we started an investigation and came to know that a man left her near her house. He was identified as a 22-year-old man from the same area. We have filed a first information report and started an investigation," a police officer said.
The man has been booked under Sections 127 (1) (wrongful restraint), 96 (procuration of child), 76 (assault on woman with intent to disrobe), and 65 (2) (rape on minor) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Section 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso).

The incident comes a day after police arrested two men, in their twenties, for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in North Tripura district. The accused men allegedly kidnapped the girl on Thursday evening when she went to a shop to buy colddrink. The men, who were on a bike, then took her to a nearby forest and sexually assaulted her. The men later left her on a road. Locals took her to a nearby hospital but she couldn't gain consciousness, so she was shifted to North Tripura District Hospital for further treatment. The girl in a complaint alleged that the men also tried to strangle her to death.

In August, the police arrested four people, including two minors, for allegedly raping a girl in South Tripura. The girl had gone to her aunt's house when the men took her to an isolated place and committed the crime.
