Strong tremors were felt across Kashmir at around 12:20 PM today after a powerful earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region.
According to data from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the quake occurred at 06:47:55 UTC (12:17 PM IST) with its epicenter located at 36.13°N latitude and 71.38°E longitude, at a depth of 86 km.
No damage or casualty was reported immediatly.
A week ago also the valley experience tremors as an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 struck Pakistan on 12 April 2025 at 13:00:55 IST. The epicenter of this earthquake was located at 33.63°N latitude and 72.46°E longitude at a depth of 10 km.
Earlier on that day, two smaller quakes were also recorded:
- Tajikistan: Magnitude 4.2 at 12:24 IST
- Pakistan: Magnitude 3.3 at 11:55 IST
