The skeletal remains of a teenager have been found in a defunct madrassa in Kanpur, police said. The madrassa was closed for several years but the police found ABCD written on the board in the room, a report by Aaj Tak said. The report also added that the date mentioned on the board was May 18, 2023, raising suspicion since its owner has claimed that the madrassa was closed for last three years.

Additional DCP (East) Rajesh Srivastav said that forensic experts and field units have been asked to probe the matter, and instructions have been issued to get a DNA profiling done to determine the skeleton's gender.

"A detailed study of the skeleton will be carried out to ascertain its age and cause of the death. The skeleton appears to be old," Srivastav told mediapersons.

The owner of the seminary, Hamza, was alerted by his cousin Anas when he found the lock of the madrassa broken, the officer said. When Hamza reached the seminary to take stock of the matter, he found the human skeleton in a room behind the kitchen, Srivastava said.
