The deceased taxi driver was identified as Israfil. He was found dead with multiple stab wounds on his body. Rohit, the 23-year-old accused, had gotten into an argument with the victim over route, following which he attacked the driver.

The incident came to light on May 15 when police received information about an abandoned car with visible bloodstains in Savda village near an agricultural field. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Amit Goel said that the police found the body lying 50 metres away from the car, news agency PTI reported.

"On reaching the spot, police found the bloodied car, bearing Haryana registration number and a male body lying around 50 metres away in the fields," he said.

The body was later identified as Israfil's. His family told the police that he worked as a taxi driver. "Israfil had several sharp cut wounds on his forehead and hands, along with a deep stab injury on his back," DCP Goel said.

The victim's family also informed the police that Israfil had taken a booking from Inderlok Metro station around 11:00 PM the night before he was found dead, the DCP said, as reported by PTI.

A case has been registered at Kanjhawala Police Station under the relevant section of the BNS.

What The Accused Told Police

When the police accessed the app-based taxi booking details, they traced the accused, a resident of Jhajjar district in Haryana. The DCP said that he was later taken into custody, and confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The accused told police that he had booked a cab from Inderlok Metro station to Haryana's Nizampur village. But, during the ride, he got into an argument with the taxi driver over the route and attacked him with a knife in an intoxicated state. He then dragged the body out of the car and left it in the fields near the spot before fleeing. The weapon of offence is yet to be recovered, the DCP said.

The vehicle in which the murder took place has been recovered by the police. An investigation to ascertain whether the murder was premeditated or triggered purely by the altercation is underway.
