All Schools In 5 Punjab Border Districts To Remain Closed After Operation Sindoor

Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir today, in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.

All schools along the border districts of Punjab, including Ferozepur, Amritsar, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Gurdaspur were closed following the escalating tensions after Operation Sindoor early Wednesday. 

Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir today, in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. The Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke were also targeted in the strikes, which lasted 25 minutes.

The Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner issued an order that all schools in the district will remain closed today, officials said. However, all schools in Pathankot will also remain shut for the next 72 hours, news agency PTI reported.

The military strikes were carried out two weeks after 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in a terror attack on April 22.

Schools, Colleges In 5 Border Districts Of Jammu To Remain Closed Today

A similar notification was also issued for schools in five border distrcits of Jammu in the wake of prevailing situation in the region. The five districts where schools will remain closed today include Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch. 

"In view of the prevailing situation, all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch will remain closed today," Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said on X.

Pakistan engaged in heavy shelling along the LoC following the strikes by India. According to defence sources, three civilians were killed in indiscriminate firing and shelling by the Pakistan military across the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir last night.

Earlier today, a press briefing was held, wherein Col. Sofiya Qureshi said that Operation Sindoor was launched to give justice to victims of Pahalgam terrorist attack. She also comfirmed that nine terrorist camps were targeted and destroyed, and also shared visuals of the strikes.
