A man from Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh died after a speeding SUV hit his bike and dragged it for about a kilometre, said the police on Monday. An FIR has been lodged against the SUV driver in connection with the matter.

The incident took place on Sunday around 5 pm on a highway near Wajid Puram, reported India Today. The victim, identified as Sukhveer (50) was returning home from Hayatnagar when a speeding Bolero collided with his motorcycle, throwing him off.

The two-wheeler got stuck under the SUV, but the driver did not stop and rather sped up, dragging the bike along the road for nearly a kilometre.

The footage of the incident, uploaded on social media, showed sparks flying off as the SUV dragged the bike lodged under it.

The victim sustained injuries with fractures in both legs and bleeding from multiple areas. He was rushed to the district hospital where doctors who initially treated him described his condition as critical.

He was then referred to a higher facility but succumbed to his injuries during the treatment, according to the report.

The videos, uploaded on social media, show the Bolero with a BJP sticker reading "gram pradhan" on its rear windshield. The video caused widespread outrage and prompted action by the police.
