The accused in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan has been arrested by Mumbai police from Hiranandani Estate in a late-night operation.
On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the Crime Branch and Mumbai police received information about the accused's presence at a construction site in Hiranandani Estate.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-VI Navnath Dhable was informed about the input, after which a DCP team left for the spot along with the Crime Branch team.
However, the accused had received information about the police teams' arrival and hid in a dense thorny bush at the construction site.
The police teams found difficulty in catching the accused after he hid in the bushes and had to rely on torch and mobiles flashlight. The Crime Branch, along with DCP Dhable, Bandra Police, and Kasar Vadwali Police from the local station, surrounded the bushes from all sides. As a result, the accused, unable to escape from all directions, was successfully apprehended from the thorny bushes.
The accused has been identified as Vijay Das, a waiter at a restaurant in Mumbai, said the police, adding that he has confessed to having committed the crime.

The police also confirmed that the accused was using multiple names including Vijay Das, Bijoy Das, and Mohammed Iliyas to evade arrest. Das has been kept in detention at Khar police station and will be produced at a local court later in the day.
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked with a knife at his residence in Mumbai's upscale Bandra area at around 2 am on Thursday. The actor suffered six stabs and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital with a part of a knife lodged in his spine.
He underwent multiple surgeries after which doctors said he was out of danger.
