The arrested accused in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan is trying to mislead the investigation by not revealing his real identity and has been telling police different names. The accused was arrested by Mumbai police from Thane's Hiranandani area in the early hours of Sunday.

The accused has been using multiple names like Vijay Das, Bijoy Das, and Mohammaed Iliyas. He also told his name to be Mohammed Alian aka BJ. The police also said he told his name to be Mohammed Sajjad.

No Aadhar Card or any other document has been recovered from the accused that could be used to verify his identity. He is also suspected to be an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh. During questioning, the accused confessed that he broke into the actor's house with the intention of theft.

The accused hails from Nadia district in West Bengal and was preparing to return there after the attack at Saif's house in Mumbai's Bandra. He worked as a housekeeping worker at a pub in Thane.

According to the police, he has been working at different places in Mumbai and Thane and had been recently working at a construction site with a contractor named Pande.

He has been tracking news since the attack and had switched off his phone fearing arrest.

The actor was attacked with a knife at his home in the early hours of Thursday and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital with a piece of the knife lodged in his spine. He underwent multiple surgeries and is out of danger and currently recuperating, the doctors said.

A 2.5-inch piece of a broken knife was removed by doctors who performed emergency surgery on the actor.

On Saturday, the police recovered a piece of a broken knife from Saif's house during the probe.
