RG Kar News: The CBI is tightening the noose around Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as it continues to probe deeper into the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder case. On Friday, the CBI received the Calcutta High Court's nod to probe the allegations of corruption at RG Kar MCH. The allegations accuse Sandip Ghosh of engaging in various illegal activities, including trafficking of corpses.

Akhtar Ali, former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Medical College, approached the High Court on Wednesday requesting that the investigation of the financial corruption allegations against Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate.

The illegal activities included the trafficking of unclaimed bodies. Ali also alleged that the rape & murder accused, Sanjay Roy, was part of the security of the former principal. Ali also stated that Ghosh was engaged in trafficking biomedical waste and medical supplies to Bangladesh.

The Mamata Banerjee government had earlier constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations of corruption. As a result of the HC's ruling, the SIT formed by the state was no longer admissible in the investigation. The CBI will have to submit a report on the progress of the investigation by September 17, the court ordered. Akhtar Ali, in the meanwhile, can seek security from the CBI, if required.

Reacting to the court's verdict on Friday, Akhtar Ali said this fight was for his students, who had been oppressed by Sandip Ghosh. He has appealed to other "victims" of Sandip Ghosh's "oppression" to report the crimes, anonymously, if needed.

Although Ali had requested an ED investigation, the court felt that since the CBI was already investigating the RG Kar rape & murder case and was questioning Sandip Ghosh, it was better to let the same agency handle the related case.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Ghosh has appealed to the division bench challenging the order of the single-judge bench.
