RG Kar Medical College News: The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken over the RG Kar doctor death case, wherein a junior physician was allegedly raped and murdered by a civic volunteer last week. The CBI takeover of the case came a day after the Calcutta High Court ordered the central agency to investigate the case that has the country on the boil.

On Wednesday morning, a CBI team of at least 10 members from Delhi landed in Kolkata. The team is likely to visit the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital later in the day. The CBI team comprises specialised medical and forensic personnel. After the case was transferred to the CBI, the accused, Sanjoy Roy, was handed over to the central agency at its office at CGO Complex in Kolkata.

Sanjoy Roy reportedly confessed to his crimes during police interrogation. According to media reports he also admitted to having been violent against the women in his family and sought capital punishment for himself.

Sanjoy Roy allegedly sexually assaulted and strangulated the junior doctor at RG Kar MCH in a seminar hall on the fourth floor of the institution. Roy's involvement in the crime was traced using CCTV footage and evidence found at the scene of the crime.
