A Sub-Divisional Magistrate from Rajasthan's Jodhpur district died in a hospital in Ahmedabad allegedly due to medical negligence, said the officials on Thursday.

Rajasthan Administrative Services officer, Priyanka Bishnoi (33) experienced abdominal pain after which she was diagnosed with a lump in the uterus. She underwent a hysterectomy at a private hospital in Jodhpur on September 5, reported PTI.

However, her condition deteriorated the next day and her family took her to a hospital in Ahmedabad in September, the official said. She was undergoing treatment in Ahmedabad for 13 days before passing away on Wednesday late at night. Her family accused the doctors in Jodhpur of medical negligence during her surgery.

According to an NDTV report, she allegedly went into a coma after she was given an excess dosage of anaesthesia during her surgery, the family alleges.

The incident triggered outrage with some people, including members of the Bishnoi community, assembling outside the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur. They demanded that an FIR be lodged against the accused doctor and hospital.

"We explained to them that according to government guidelines, the police could only file a case after receiving the investigation report from the constituted team. After this, an agreement was reached to take the body, and the protest ended after about four and a half hours", said an official.

Following the dialogue, the people withdrew the protests and the family members and Bishnoi community members left with her body for Surpura in Phalodi for the last rites.

Given the outrage, security was beefed up late at night at the Jodhpur Hospital and the residence of its director.

The RAS officer from the 2016 batch hails from Bikaner and was serving as a sub-district magistrate in Jodhpur.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma condoled her death and prayed for eternal peace to the soul and strength to the family.
