Switching political allegiance has perhaps never seen such a "religious procedure" in secular India. And BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya has taken it upon himself to "purify" anyone who joins the saffron party in Rajasthan as per Hindu customs. The  Hawa Mahal MLA on Thursday "purified" the new Jaipur Heritage Nagar Nigam mayor, Kusum Yadav, with Ganga water and chanting the Hanuman Chalisa and Vedic mantras.

He also "purified" the Congress councillors who supported the BJP by sprinkling Gangajal on them. They were also given gaumutra (cow urine) to drink.

Earlier, the mayor was Munesh Gurjar of Congress. He was removed after corruption allegations were levelled against him. Now, Kusum Yadav, who was expelled by the BJP for 6 years in 2019, has taken over the post. Kusum Yadav assumed the mayor's chair on the occasion of Navami tithi after performing Puja with Vedic mantras.

Balmukund Acharya said that the councillors had been "purified with Gangajal" and their "impurities" had been removed. "Now they have become completely Sanatani. They will work together to make this city beautiful. Here, the officials have also been purified. Till now, the officials were also walking amid impurities. It was their compulsion that they were being made to do such work," he said.

Balmukund further said that the officers have now become free from corruption. "Action will be taken against those officers who were involved in corruption. He said that in Sanatan Dharma, Gangajal and cow urine are given to free one from the crimes committed till now," he said.

Pratap Khachariyawas Objects To 'Purification'

Reacting to the "purification" rituals, Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas said that everyone in India needs Gangajal. "But the Bharatiya Janata Party should purify itself with Gangajal before purifying others. First, BJP people need to drink Gangajal and cow urine," he said.
