A man facing trial for murder was found dead by suicide inside Tihar Jail, casting a grim shadow over the conditions within one of India’s most notorious prisons.
Ramesh Karmakar, an undertrial prisoner lodged in Jail No. 3, was discovered hanging in the hospital ward of the high-security complex on Monday morning. According to jail authorities, Karmakar was a resident of Delhi’s Anand Parbat area and had been awaiting trial in connection with a murder case.
IANS posted the update and wrote, "#BREAKING An undertrial prisoner, Ramesh Karmakar, accused of murder and lodged in Tihar Jail No. 3, committed suicide by hanging himself in the jail hospital. He was a resident of Anand Parbat area in Delhi. The Tihar administration discovered his body hanging in the morning.
