Weather Update: Amid the monsoon season, parts of Maharashtra's capital city, Mumbai, have been receiving incessant rainfall for the last few days, and showers are likely to continue in the coming days. On Saturday, the maximum city woke up to heavy rain and waterlogged roads. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in the city for Saturday, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Residents in Mumbai have been complaining of waterlogging in several parts of the city. Amid the heavy downpour, severe waterlogging was witnessed in Navi Mumbai, with roads flooded with water, causing trouble for commuters.
The weather office predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in the city on Friday. According to the weather office, maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 degrees and 24 degrees, respectively.
"Moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs. Possibility of very heavy rain in isolated places. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 deg. C. and 24 deg. C," IMD said.
Waterlogging Hits Mumbai Traffic
Due to waterlogging, traffic on the road near Sheetal Cinema and Kale Marg, both in Kurla area, was diverted. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said that traffic on the Aarey route in Goregaon east has been diverted via Seepz-Marol Maroshi-JVLR in both directions, news agency PTI reported.
Briefing about traffic situation, a traffic police official said that Andheri subway has also been temporarily shut for vehicles due to waterlogging and traffic has been diverted to S V Road.
The Central Railway as well as Western Railway, which operate suburban train services in the Mumbai metropolitan region, said the local services were operating normally on all their routes.
Schools Closed In Nagpur
Nagpur District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar has said, as far as other parts of Maharashtra are concerned, all schools and colleges in Nagpur district will remain closed on July 20 due to heavy rain. The IMD has issued an orange alert in Nagpur.
