Mumbai News: A student from Mumbai's Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was found dead at his rented apartment on Saturday morning, prompting an investigation into the circumstances leading to his death. The student, identified as Anurag Jaiswal, hailed from Lucknow and was pursuing a degree in Human Resource Management.

Jaiswal had attended a party in Vashi with approximately 150 students on Friday night, NDTV reported citing sources. It was reported that Jaiswal consumed a significant amount of alcohol at the event.

Following his return home, Jaiswal began feeling unwell, according to statements from his three roommates who were questioned by the police. When Jaiswal did not wake up the following morning, his roommates rushed him to a hospital in Chembur, where he was pronounced dead, according to NDTV's report.

Earlier suspicions of ragging being a factor in the student's death were dismissed by the police after interrogating the roommates. The authorities have filed an accidental death report, and an investigation is ongoing.

Jaiswal's family in Lucknow has been informed of the tragic incident and has requested that the post-mortem examination be conducted only after their arrival in Mumbai, the report stated.

In a post on X, TISS expressed sadness for the death of the student and expressed support for the deceased’s family. "It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing away of Anurag Jaiswal, first year student of HRM&LR of TISS Mumbai. We are with Anurag’s family at this heartbreaking time and our thoughts and prayers will always be with the Anurag's family (sic)," the post read.
