‘RDX At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus’: Mumbai Police Detain Caller For Bomb Threat Hoax

An unidentified person called the railways police control room in Mumbai, claiming that an RDX was placed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

Mumbai: The Government Railways Police on Friday received a call at the control room from an unidentified person, claiming that an RDX was placed at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Following this, the local police and bomb police were informed and a search operation was conducted at all CSMT stations. However, nothing was found.

Since then efforts were underway by the Mumbai police to trace the person who made the call. The suspect has been detained by the police within a few hours since he made the threat call. 

The suspect who threatened to blow up the CSMT with RDX has been identified as Sachin Shinde. He is being interrogated by the police.

A police officer stated that when an attempt was made to trace the location of the caller, it showed up to be near the Terminus. However, the mobile phone of the individual was switched off shortly after.

"The number used to make the call was traced to locations in both Mumbai and Bihar," GRP Mumbai said. 

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Mumbai, is one of the busiest train stations in the world from where lakhs of passengers come and go everyday. It has 18 platforms and serves as a terminal for both long-distance and suburban trains. 

Man Makes Hoax Bomb Call To Blow Up 2 Mumbai Stations, Gets Arrested Within Hours  

In another incident reported earlier this year in March, a 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly calling up Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar police control room, claiming that bombs had been planted at Kalyan and Dadar railway stations. He had also allegedly threatened that the explosions would be triggered, which later turned out to be a hoax call.

As the call was received, the police took prompt action and traced the call to Nallasopara in Palghar district that comes under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The suspect, Vikas Shukla, was thereafter caught by the police from Nallasopara within hours of receiving the call. 

"He was arrested after it was confirmed that the bomb threat was a hoax call. A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code," police said.
