A late-night motorcycle ride ended in tragedy in Mumbai’s Park Site area after a man was killed and his friend got injured after being hit by a speeding water tanker afrom behind. The driver fled the scene immediately after the incident, prompting a police search.

The fatal crash took place at around 11:45 PM on Wednesday near the Vasant Rubber Factory on LBS Road. According to a complaint filed by Mehfuz Hashmi, he and his friend Salman were returning from Tagore Nagar on a Pulsar motorcycle after picking up food. As they were riding, a water tanker rammed into their bike from behind at high speed, The Free Press Journal reported.

Hashmi recounted the horrifying moment, stating that the impact was so powerful that the motorcycle became lodged in the tanker’s bumper and was dragged for a considerable distance. “The collision was sudden and violent,” he said in the complaint.

Salman suffered grave injuries to his chest due to the impact. Hashmi, in a desperate attempt to save his friend, called two other friends for assistance and rushed him to Mahatma Phule Hospital. Despite their quick efforts, Salman could not survive and was declared dead at around 2:00 AM, the report said.

Case Registered, Hunt for Driver Underway

Following the incident, Park Site Police registered a case against unidentified tanker driver under Section 304(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to causing death by negligence, along with other applicable provisions.

Police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the absconding accused. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage from the area near the accident spot and questioning locals to gather leads.
