A court in Thane has remanded the main accused in the case of kidnapping and murder of a 12-year-old girl in police custody till January 2, 2025. The main accused, Vishal Gawli was produced in the court on Thursday morning.
The accused was kept at the Naupada police station after being caught in Maharashtra's Buldhana district on Wednesday, according to officials, reported PTI.
He was brought to the Kalyan District and Sessions Court where Judge V A Patrawale sent him in police custody till January 2, Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende said.
Two other people including the accused's wife Sakshi Gawli were also arrested by the police in connection with the the kidnap and murder of the girl, whose body was found in a village near her home in Kalyan in Thane district on Tuesday.
Sakshi's police remand was also extended till January 2 by the Kalyan court, the police said.
The accused has allegedly kidnapped the girl with the help of his wife and killed her in the Chakki Naka area of Kalyan, they said without giving details of how the minor was murdered.
They took the girl's body in an autorickshaw and dumped it at Bapgaon on Kalyan-Padgha road, as per police.
Following the crime, Vishal was spotted buying a liquor bottle in Klayan before fleeing to Buldhana to evade police. However, he was nabbed from Buldhana on Wednesday while he was stepping out of a salon after shaving his beard in a bid to conceal his identity, they said.
The motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained, the cops said, adding that 10 people have been interrogated so far, including relatives and friends of the accused.
Earlier, a police officer said they were waiting for the postmortem report of the victim and if rape is confirmed, then other legal sections will be added to the case.
