Several people were injured after a stampede broke out at the Maha Kumbh in UP's Prayagraj on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. According to sources, at least 50 people were rushed to the hospital after the incident. Several casualties are feared.
The incident occurred at Sangam when a barrier broke.
Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran OSD Akansha Rana said, "As per the information that I've received, a stampede-like situation occurred at Sangam Nose after a barrier broke. Some people were injured in the incident. No one is serious and the injured are getting the required treatment."
Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Ravindra Puri said the stampede broke out at Sangam earlier this morning: "You would've seen what happened in the morning, and that's why we have decided to... All of our saints and seers were ready for the 'snan' when we were informed about this incident. That's why we have decided to call off our 'snan' on 'Mauni Amavasya'."
PM Modi Calls Yogi Adityanath
PM Narendra Modi spoke to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and assured all assistance. PM Modi took stock of the situation and asked CM Yogi to push out immediate facilities for support and ensure the safety of devotees and pilgrims attending the Maha Kumbh.
