On the opening day of the Maha Kumbh on Makar Sankranti in Prayagraj, the UP government organised a grand welcome for the devotees showering them with rose petals from helicopters.
The first 'Amrit Snan' of Maha Kumbh, which saw the participation of over 1.38 crore devotees, showcased the Naga sadhus' captivating display of spiritual fervour and martial artistry at Triveni bank.
The showering of petals was organised by the Horticulture Department of the UP government, following the directives of the Yogi Adityanath government.
The devotees, meanwhile, responded with the chants of 'Jai Shree Ram' and 'Har Har Mahadev'.
A video of the event showed the helicopter hovering over crores of devotees at the Sangam bank and showering flowers.
The Horticulture Department, meanwhile, said that 20 quintals of rose petals have been kept for each event.
The rose petals were also showered on the devotees on Monday, during the Paush Purnima Snan. While the flower shower continued on the Amrit Snan on Makar Sankranti.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated over 3.5 crore saints, Kalpvasis and devotees on taking a holy dip in Sangam at Maha Kumbh. On the Amrit Snan festival on Tuesday, more than 3.50 crore revered saints or devotees took a holy dip in the pure Triveni, he said.
In a post on X, he said, "Hearty congratulations to all the revered saints, Kalpvasis and devotees who took a holy dip of faith in the holy Sangam on the auspicious occasion of the holy 'Makar Sankranti' in the grand gathering of faith, equality and unity 'Maha Kumbh-2025, Prayagraj."
The Maha Kumbh started on the banks of Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Monday and will continue till February 2025. It is held after every 12 years.
Around 1.75 crore devotees took a dip at the Triveni Sangam on Monday and another 1.38 crore till Tuesday afternoon, according to official estimates.
