A woman and her daughter who were caught trying to dump the severed limbs of a relative in Bengal's Madhyamgram have apparently revealed the details of the moments when they decided to chop up the body. The duo, Arati Ghosh and Falguni Ghosh, was caught with the dead body in a trolley bag at Kumartuli Ghat in Kolkata.
Kolkata Police on Tuesday reconstructed the sequences of events from Madhyamgram to Kolkata.
The initial autopsy report has revealed that the victim, Sumita Ghosh, was murdered on Sunday afternoon. Then, like a seasoned murderer, the mother and daughter planned to dispose of the body, reported ABP Ananda. According to police sources, Sumita's body was first kept at their Bireshpalli home in Madhyamgram. Sumita was the sister of Falguni Ghosh's father-in-law.
However, they were scared that the stench from the decomposing body would attract attention. They sprayed it with a deodorant to diffuse the smell of the corpse.
Then they decided to smuggle the body out in a trolley bag and dump it. They even bought a big trolley bag for the crime on Monday. But when they tried to put the body in, it wouldn't fit.
Arati Calmly Chopped Up Sumita's Body
Arati used to work at a hospital and was used to seeing corpses. She was also quite skilled in using a knife and scissors. So, she sat down to chop up the body to make the pieces fit in the trolley bag.
She first cut off the ankles of both legs and then disposed of the bnoti or blade in a nearby pond.
The mother and daughter then stepped out to identify an ideal spot to dump the body. They decided they would dump the body in the Hooghly near Kumortuli.
Then, Arati and Falguni rented a rickshaw to Barasat-Doltala intersection for Rs 130. From there, they rented a taxi for Rs 700 and reached Kumortuli Ghat, according to police sources.
Falguni claimed that she grew up in Kumortuli and was familiar with the area. Hence, she planned on dumping the body there.
